The documents required for an immigration application may vary depending on the country of residence, the immigration applciation and the applicant's personal situation. However, the following is a general list of documents that are commonly required :
A valid passport
Civil status documents : Birth certificate, marriage or divorce certificate, death certificate if applicable
Your biometrics
Your diplomas and transcripts
A police certificate
Proof of social and economic ties : Documents showing the applicant's links with their country of origin, such as proof of employment or families ties.
Financial capacity proof
Processing times vary considerably depending on a number of factors, including the country of origin, the immigration program, the complexity of the file, the volume of applications received at the same time and checks.
Costs depend on the immigration application. Here is a non-exhaustive list of potential costs :
Government fees : This includes fees related to the immigration programme (provincial and/or federal).
Translation and legalisation fees: If your documents are not in one of Canada's official languages, they will need to be translated by a certified translator. Certified copies of your official documents will also be included in your fees.
Medical expenses: For stays of more than 6 months in Canada, the results of a medical examination are required.
Police costs: A police certificate (extract from a criminal record) may be required. In some countries and in Canada, there is a charge for this document.
Biometrics fees: Biometrics are used to strengthen border security and facilitate travellers' entry. Since 31 July 2018, it has been mandatory for most immigration applications.
